the ending

I just finished reading The Grapes of Wrath for the first time, and personally, I was really disappointed in the ending.  For some reason, I thought there was going to be this unthinkable tragedy at the end or the family was going to randomly find somewhere nice to live, but it just ends with a very very weird scene that should never ever have to happen.  I guess I won’t say what the ending is in case someone hasn’t read it, but let’s just say it made me a little sick to my stomach.  I was expecting something else I guess.  When I read the last sentence I felt like throwing that massive book right to the ground and yelling at the top of my lungs.  I know there’s a bigger meaning throughout the book, but come on…It’s like John got sick of writing about their journey and he thought he’d throw all the readers off.  I thought maybe my book got cut off short at the printers. whatever. on to the next one. my sister, awesome as she is, just bought me Upton Sinclairs’ Jungle so I’m going to tackle that.  I love me some “injustice” reading. hasta luego. yo debo escribir en espanol. necesito practicar….

i’d actually heard similar comments about the ending. was it a twist ending just for a twist ending purpose or was that the endgame the whole time?

i wish it would have been a twist ending..then i wouldn’t have been so upset. you should just open to the end of that book and read the last paragraph. it wouldn’t even ruin anything from the rest of the book. you’ll just be less pissed if you ever end up reading it. it just really leaves you scratching your head while staring off into space and tears in your eyes from finishing 400 pages of reading for nothing.
